Is a group of Linux enthusiasts in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia who meet on the last Wednesday evening of the month from 6pm to 9:30pm, first starting at Jawa bar then moving to the Computer Bank at 7pm.

The main way that Mlug members communicate is via their Mlug mailing list.

Mlug members range from Linux coders and System admins, to ordinary end users who just use the Linux GUI for their desktop. Although if you are not a Linux user yet, but you are interested in learning. Then you are most welcome to join. Note; no direct support for the MS-Windows O/S is offered - unless it is related to interoperability with Linux.

The group is Linux/Unix based without focus to any specific distribution.

MLUG's overheads aren't high but we do have them.

Our main cost is room hire for the monthly meeting. Traditionally this has been covered by a gold coin donation at the door by meeting attendees. This practice will continue.

Last year (2007) meeting attendances were low and room hire wasn't covered so the MLUG Administrator made up the shortfalls. So far this year (2008) attendance has been good and room hire has been covered.

Sometimes it would be nice to use a projector for presentations. (we currently only have a monitor for that). One could be hired each month (at a cost of about $80) or if some-one is able to donate the use of one each meeting, it would be greatly appreciated.

Currently the website is being hosted for free by the MLUG Administrator and the Mailing List is being kindly hosted by Christian Lerrahn on his personal server.

It would nice to be able to have a virtual server to combine everything and offer more services like we had in 2006. That one was donated at the time. Again, one could be hired, or if some-one is able to donate one (MLUGs bandwidth is quite low) that would be great. It would also add to the workshops that we could do in setting up the different services we would like to use.

Donations of the monetary kind to MLUG are appreciated and can be made using the PayPal button.

I know a lot of members only use the Mailing List and can't attend meetings but it would be nice if every member could donate something. How much you donate is up to you and any amount is appreciated. Everyone who donates something, either services, or money, will be included in our Thank-you List. If you donate and don't want to appear in the list, please email admin at mlug dot org dot au.
